Frequently Asked Questions

What is Biolume?

Biolume is a new kind of health service that gives you access to advanced blood testing and intelligent analysis — without needing a doctor’s referral or joining a program. We help you track the biomarkers that matter and understand what they mean, so you can take control of your health early.

Do I need a referral from a doctor?

No. You can access Biolume testing directly — no referrals, appointments, or gatekeeping required.

What makes Biolume different from standard blood tests?

Traditional blood tests often focus on diagnosing disease once symptoms are present. We focus on prevention. Our panels go deeper, include markers often overlooked in conventional testing, and come with easy-to-understand insights that show how your body is performing — even before symptoms show up.

What are the membership options?

We offer three membership options: Foundational Longevity, Essential Longevity, and Extensive Longevity. Each one gives you access to different levels of testing and insight — from core health indicators to in-depth, longevity-focused tracking. You can choose based on your goals and stage of the health journey.

Will someone help me interpret my results?

Yes. Every Biolume test comes with a personalised, plain-English report — not just lab numbers. It explains your results system by system, what they mean functionally, and what actions you can take. If you require more assistance, we offer support via email at all times.

Will you recommend supplements?

Sometimes — but only when the data shows a clear need. We may suggest supplements that are supported by tier 1 research, but we never push specific brands or dosages. Diet, lifestyle and sleep always come first.

Is this covered by Medicare or private health?

No. Biolume is a private service. That’s what allows us to offer testing that’s deeper, more flexible, and not limited by standard Medicare panels.

Where can I get the blood test done?

Once you book, we’ll connect you to a local collection centre or mobile pathology partner. It’s fast, convenient, and Australia-wide with over 2000 locations to choose from

Is this service for people who are sick?

Not necessarily. Biolume is for people who want to stay well — or who don’t feel quite right but haven’t found clear answers. It’s designed for proactive health, early detection, and personalised optimisation.

How often should I retest?

We recommend retesting every 3–6 months, depending on your goals and results. Your report will include a tailored retest recommendation to help you track progress over time.

Can I upload a past blood test for analysis?

Yes. If you’ve had blood work done recently, you can upload your results and we’ll digitise and interpret them through the Biolume lens — giving you the same level of insight without retesting immediately.

Is Biolume a replacement for seeing a doctor?

No. Biolume is not a replacement for medical care. We’re here to enhance it. If your results show something that needs medical attention, we’ll clearly flag it and advise you to follow up with your doctor.

Are the tests accurate?

Yes. All tests are processed by professional, accredited labs across Australia — the same ones used by GPs and hospitals. We simply help you get more out of that data.

Can I use Biolume if I’m pregnant or breastfeeding?

We do not recommending using Biolume if you are pregnant or breastfeeding as it may alter your results.

What if my results are all 'normal'?

We go beyond normal. Our reports look at what’s optimal — not just what’s within range. Even results in the normal zone can show trends worth watching or opportunities to optimise before issues arise.

Do I have to sign up for a subscription?

Yes. Biolume is a subscription based model that offer 3 tiers of membership for 12 months subscription. To view our Memberhip options please visit here

Is this available to people under 18?

Not at this time. Biolume is designed specifically for adults aged 18 and over.

How is my data protected?

Your privacy is our priority. All health data is encrypted, anonymised and stored securely on servers that meet strict Australian and international data protection standards. We partner only with pathology providers and digital platforms that comply with privacy legislation — including the Australian Privacy Principles (APPs) and HIPAA-equivalent safeguards. Your test results and personal information are stored separately, with no direct identifiers connecting them unless you choose to link them. You can also anonymise uploaded results if you prefer.

Biolume will never sell or share your data. You stay in full control — always.

How do I prepare for my test?

All Biolume tests require fasting. Here’s how to get the most accurate results:

  • Fasting: Fast for 8–10 hours before your blood draw. Water is fine — but avoid food, drinks (including coffee), and anything other than water during that time. Morning appointments are best.
  • Supplements: Avoid all supplements for 3 days before your test — unless you’re specifically measuring their effect. This ensures we’re testing your baseline, not a short-term spike.
  • Hydration: Drink plenty of water the day before and the morning of your test. It makes your blood draw easier and supports more accurate results.
  • Medications: Never stop prescription medications unless advised by your GP. If you’re unsure whether a medication will affect your results, check with your healthcare provider ahead of time.
  • Hormone testing: If you're tracking menstrual cycle hormones, we’ll let you know the ideal day of your cycle to test.

What happens if the pathology provider misses a test?

On rare occasions, a specific test may be missed by the pathology provider. As this is handled by external labs, it’s not something we control — but we will always make it right. We’ll either reissue the missed test or refund the cost of that individual test — whichever you prefer.

Can I store other test results, like Dexa scans or wearable data?

Yes. Your Biolume dashboard allows you to securely store other test results — including physical diagnostics like Dexa scans, VO2 max, and more. Think of it as a health record that works the way you do.

Can I request a biomarker that’s not on your test list?

Absolutely. We can create custom panels tailored to your needs. Just email us at info@biolume.health, and our team will guide you through the options.

What support do I get after testing?

Your report includes tailored next steps, timelines for retesting, and suggested areas to focus on — whether that’s stress, inflammation, hormones, or nutrients. You can also reach out to our team if you need clarification or guidance.
